Artist Inspiration
Rachel Lei (top left graphic): "Diversity, to me, is allyship! The only way we can connect people is to have differences be respected and understood. In my depiction of allyship, the intertwined hands are the centerpieces of a united composition marked by the echoes of rainbows that surround the hands. On the border and in the center of the piece are hand-drawn hearts that act as a reminder of hand-grown love for all people."
Semira Arora (top right graphic): "My artwork, “Eyes Open”, plays on what allyship and advocacy means to me, symbolized through three forms of eyes: the literal eye shows how all of us have the capability to be cognizant and we just have to use our natural abilities to discern where there is injustice, the evil eye which is a motif important in South Asian culture, used to ward off negative energy, and the letter “i” referring to how we reflect and change our own actions to better a community, and to symbolize the imaginary number in the mathematical world where the Asian community has pioneered progress in. Thus, “Eyes Open” is a call to action and awareness: to see injustice, spread positivity, and reflect on ourselves."
Mia Fung (bottom left graphic): "Allyship is about connection and choosing to support people and communities, no matter if they share your identity. In the artwork, I drew four different people linking pinkies to show friendship and a promise to stand by each other. The leaves and vines show how we are connected and the constant room for growth in allyship. I chose bright, fun colors because allyship isn’t something dull; it’s full of life, a beautiful mix of cultures, identities, and experiences."
Suhaan Shah (bottom right graphic): "This artwork shows two hands, one with henna and the other with a jade bangle, joined in solidarity under a glowing lantern. Around them are lotuses, origami cranes, and soft clouds that represent peace, resilience, and shared culture. The rainbow background reflects the beauty of diversity and the strength found in unity. To me, allyship means choosing to show up for each other with love and honesty. It is about lifting up voices that are often ignored and honoring each other's traditions without erasing them."
